The Best Destination & Beach Wedding Dresses in Surrey

20140407BridalShoot-126.jpg

It’s no secret that I am a fan of a destination wedding. Above is a picture of me and my husband back in 2014 at our wedding in South Africa - it was the best day of our entire lives (I’m confidently speaking on his behalf) haha!

When searching for my dress, I must admit I didn’t think about the practicality of getting it half way across the planet. Luckily and rather conveniently I found a dress that was hugely conducive to transport as it was made of chiffon. Light, floaty, no creases - perfect!

When I opened my bridal shop in Surrey in April 2018, I wanted to have a good selection of unique dresses for brides getting married in all corners of the world - home and away. These are a list of my TOP TEN DESTINATION WEDDING DRESSES for brides getting married abroad on the beaches of Australia or the snowy mountains of Switzerland. These gowns travel easily, move with the breeze and have a distinctly relaxed and bohemian feel.

FIJI

A truly spectacular A-line halterneck wedding dress made of oodles of pleated chiffon and stunning lace. Named after a chain of islands we’d quite happily call home, FIJI is our top choice for a destination wedding. This ethereal wedding gown is floaty, whimsical and truly exquisite - ideal for a wedding on a beach, up a mountain or in the woods.

KEMBLE

KEMBLE is our chiffon and sparkling lace gown by Ella Rosa. A stunningly beautiful bodice with an exquisite sheer lace back and buttons all the way down the skirt, KEMBLE is ideal for a summertime wedding. This graceful chiffon skirt ripples like waves breaking on a shoreline whilst the delicate beading across the bodice sparkles in the light.

DEMETRIA

DEMETRIA also features in our BEST BOHEMIAN WEDDING DRESS blog as she is so light, relaxed and elegant. She is an ideal dress for transport as she is light and compact. Her chiffon skirt and bodice can be folded and placed in your car or hung in an aeroplane with ease and all she’ll need is to be hung straight for a few days and her creases will drop straight out. No sparkles, no bling, just stunning lace and an incredible cut. Perfection.

FEATHER

FEATHER is a sexy fitted gown with wonderful movement and beautiful boho detailing. The delicate vines and florals cover her sheer bodice and down the skirt dancing above the intricate and contemporary lace beneath. A plunging front and a low V back are super chic and the luxuriously soft tuille train is light and delicate. Finish your look with a chic bridal cape and you’re ready for your wedding in Provence amidst the vineyards.

BLOOM

Another pleated chiffon skirt, this time with an exquisite bodice and beautiful cap sleeves. Elegant, simple, pretty and sweeter than honey, BLOOM is the epitome of destination wedding glam. Couple this adorable boho wedding dress with a savage flower crown and fierce make-up and float down the aisle on your faraway beach.

BLAKE

BLAKE is a little naughty and a little sassy but ultimately is a contemporary twist on a classically elegant and beautiful bridal gown. This long-sleeved wedding dress is now available in our Surrey bridal shop and for me, BLAKE is a vision in the South African bush wedding with rustic florals, jagged foliage, dark plum and burgundy colours and would be ideal for a cooler climate. Dress her up or down for a country bumpkin celebration or a lush ski resort wedding.

ELENA

ELENA is joining our LUSH CURVE collection in autumn 2019 and will be available from a UK4 to a UK34 so everyone can benefit from her beauty! Her stunning and distinct pattern, high neck and low back, soft and romantic tuille to add whimsy to this striking design. Elegant sleeves are ideal for a winter or spring wedding vacay in Europe or the U.S. Dreamy, elegant and uber feminine.

DOROTHY

The elegant and sophisticated DOROTHY has PARIS written all over her! Hell, anywhere in France! She is hopelessly chic and transcends bridal tradition in favour of relaxed European glamour. Her stunning bow-tie neck and open back with her understated skirt is perfect for strolling down the Champs de Elysee en route to a fabulously chic Parisian restaurant. Or staying a little closer to home, DOROTHY is perfect for a classy London wedding for any hopelessly chic London brides.

m_dorothy_ivory_dorothy_closeup.jpg

DARWIN

New to our collection, DARWIN is elegant, chic and dripping from head to toe in a unique design of lace. It is a contemporary vintage design in that, it is so delicate and feminine in a vintage style with a slightly contemporary twist. A sexy silhouette and a scoop back complete this chic and classically beautiful gown. Perfect with an overstated dramatic veil for an Italian wedding.

m_darwin_ivory_darwin_closeup.jpg
m_darwin_ivory_darwin_back.jpg

EMMA

EMMA also made our TOP TEN BOHO WEDDING DRESS list and as you can see, she can work for lots of different styles of celebration! EMMA is lightweight, delicate and utterly charming. She is available in ivory but I love her original mocha design. It makes the unusual and bohemian style lace stand out. She’s fitted and daring without being too naughty! Good vibes all around with EMMA as your dress.

Hannah's Favourite Barn Venues in Surrey & Sussex...

gildings.jpg

Barn venues continue to go from strength to strength in popularity. Year in and year out, barns dominate the wedding industry for their charm, their style, their ability to be relaxed yet formal - it’s safe to say, barn wedding venues aren’t going anywhere!

As a Surrey based bridal boutique on the borders of West Sussex, we have our fair share of barn venues right on our doorstep. We are recommended at several of them, but there really are so many options for couples to choose from. A barn could be super rustic and utterly charming a la ‘barn dance’ vibes. It could be a restored barn with slate floors, swanky lighting and a real modern feel to it.

For our future brides and their partners, we have put together a list of the best barn wedding venues in Surrey and Sussex to make your search a little easier.

SURREY

GATE STREET BARN

One of the counties most popular barn venues without doubt, Gate Street benefits from being a dry hire barn with a preferred partners list, giving you the choice of catering companies. Choose your style of catering to fit your wedding brief and build your day from the ground up. Quaint and charming from the outside, with a unique blend of traditional and contemporary inside. The extended bar area is exceptional and the features speak for themselves.

GILDINGS BARN

Rustic, traditional and utterly charming, Gildings Barn is undeniably one of Surrey’s most loved barn venues. Built in the 1990’s in an historic fashion by the current owners father who studied the archaic techniques of building traditional barns (he nailed it by the way) this barn has everything you could want for a rural and relaxed celebration.

BURFORD BRIDGE

One of few barn venues to benefit from a large hotel adjoining it’s striking interiors. Nestled at the base of the famous Box Hill, Burford Bridge has a unique interior with a stunning fitted bar area with sofas for evening lounging. Inside the barn, dine under original beams taken from the Spanish Armada in the 11th century. Truly a piece of history in our very own beautiful countryside.

THE TITHE BARN (ok, so technically this is Hampshire but it’s too friggin’ beautiful not to include!)

The Tithe Barn nestles under beech hangers close to the South Downs Way at Old Ditcham Farm, on the border of Hampshire and West Sussex.

The hamlet of Ditcham dates back to Saxon times. The lands were given to the Abbey of Durford by the Lord of the Manor of Harting in 1273.

The Barn appears and disappears from maps over the centuries and the origin of the present building is shrouded in mystery. What we do know is that the Barn was originally of cruciate form, and it has been returned to this condition.

BURY COURT BARN

There is a wonderful intimacy about Bury Court Barn that provides the individual atmosphere for a truly special wedding. The main oak-beamed barn is so versatile it can make a small wedding feel at home and yet, for a larger wedding, it can accommodate up to 180 for a sit-down meal.

Jacaranda Catering Company offer a range of delicious menus. They are fully licensed so Jacaranda can run you a pay bar or you can provide all your own drink, whatever suits you. They are licensed for Civil Ceremonies so it's possible to enjoy your whole day under one roof. A beautiful ceremony followed by champagne and canapés with photos in the gardens.

LOSELEY PARK

Loseley House is situated in 1,400 acres of glorious rolling countryside, just 3 miles south of Guildford in Surrey. You will approach the House along a mile long winding driveway passing beautiful parkland. The view then opens up to the truly magnificent Elizabethan Mansion surrounded by well-kept lawns.

Steeped in a history stretching back over more than 500 years, privately owned Loseley Park is tailor-made to make your day special. Loseley House offers the panelled Great Hall, a magnificent backdrop for civil ceremonies and the elegant Drawing Room. Receptions are held in the 17th Century Tithe Barn which is also licensed for ceremonies.

The spectacular three acre walled garden is based on a design by Gertrude Jekyll and a perfect location for Celebrant ceremonies, reception drinks and wedding photographs.

The main barn where you can have your civil ceremony and it’s quite frankly exquisite. A truly magnificent barn that is perfect for couples looking for a little rustic glamour. There is a glass conservatory that has been lovingly added to the main barn, leading out to a courtyard area which is truly quaint. There are other buildings dotted around the courtyard including the main office space that is so in-keeping with the style of the property, you would think it was a little annex. There is also a wonderful cottage where guests can stay overnight to extend the celebrations. It is utterly charming and has a very traditional style.

Has bridal fashion been inspired by Meghan Markle & Princess Eugenie?

Meghan Markle & Princess Eugenie Wedding Dress Inspiration…

One of the most common questions asked when guests arrive to our boutique is “do you think the royal weddings have influenced bridal fashion”? In a very simple word – yes. When we first opened our boutique in April 2018, there was hardly any demand for super sleek and simple gowns in mikado or satin.

Six months later in the autumn and into winter, there has been a huge change in bridal fashion, I believe inspired by our two beautiful members of the royal family, Meghan and Eugenie. Markle’s simple Givenchy wedding dress was demure and elegant from head to toe in a figure-hugging fabric that showed her lean and statuesque figure with full sleeves. Her evening gown for her reception was also a simple gown with clean lines and crisp finish. It was a glorious halter neck that made a statement feature of her beautiful shoulders and slim figure.

Her stunning tiara and extra extra long veil has also inspired our designers to up their ‘sparkle’ game and we’ve been seeing an increase in popularity for BIG tiaras as well as new ranges of veils that are now available in ‘abbey’ length to rival Markle’s exquisite veil. They are over 3ft longer than the cathedral veils we stock so definitely pack a punch!

Eugenie wore a stunning satin off the shoulder gown with a gloriously long train and again it had full sleeves. I think this has certainly inspired the next year of bridal fashion as brides aren’t afraid to have a little more train than they may have normally chosen. Interestingly, Eugenie chose not to have a veil and instead gave all the attention to an awe-inspiring emerald tiara, a loan from her majesty – how kind!

I also think it made a lot of us look back to Kate’s wedding dress when she married Prince William back in 2014 and remember how drop dread gorgeous her gown was designed by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen. The long lace sleeves, plunging neckline and exquisite skirt and train. The world fell in love with her style all over again! Kate’s evening gown was also to die for, again in simple satin accessorised with a beautiful long-sleeved angora shrug.

Winter Weddings at Wotton House...

Lots of couples choose to get married in the summertime. There’s always a hope for glorious long sunny days, Pimms on the lawn and having the opportunity to be outside for lots of photos. But if you’re like me and LOVE the romance, intimacy and cosiness of a winter wedding, it’s a great time to start looking for inspiration on how to achieve a beautifully styled celebration that reflects your personality and makes the most out of the season of giving.

9ab3ee73ad098c2e48a317f39c83e510.jpg

We are the exclusive recommended bridal boutique for Wotton House in Surrey and we’re celebrating that with ‘Wotton Week’ on the blog and on social media. Therefore, we have chosen to take Wotton House under the microscope and pick out some of the key features of this exquisite Surrey wedding venue and suggest some options on how to create an effortlessly magical winter wedding at one of Surrey’s most popular wedding venue.

The Old Library

One of Surrey’s most enchanting ceremony spaces that truly defies belief. In itself, the deep wooden floors, dramatic pillars and vaulted stone ceilings already create a feeling of warmth and cosiness. We recommend accentuating this with an abundance of oversized candles lining the aisle with lots of fake snow sitting beneath. Not big on candles? How about large hurricane vases filed with bundles of fairy lights? Or even tall water filled lily vases with a small LED light in the bottom that changes colour and a floating candle on top?

Photography by Be Unveiled Dress and Cape by BRIDE by Aster

Photography by Be Unveiled

Dress and Cape by BRIDE by Aster

Atmospheric lighting on the pillars and fairy lights is always a great way of really adding depth and atmosphere to a space and you could even add some moving lights to the ceiling and walls to project the illusion of falling snowflakes!

Make people feel as if they walked into a winter wedding and instead of chiavari chairs, why not hire in wooden benches and dress with faux fur throws and blankets. Instead of fresh and structured floral arrangements, opt for loose and wild foliage with hardy winter flowers and pops of dark burgundy, navy blue and shots of ivory for crispness.

de-vere-wott-20170213043254905.jpg

The Dress

A winter wedding doesn’t mean you need to dress as if you’re going on an exploration of the arctic. But it does mean that you might want to consider a sleeve or some sort of warm accessory to your ensemble to ensure that when you do go outside for photographs, you’re nice and toasty. Thankfully, we‘ve got you covered (get it?)

Choose from our unique collection of stunning dresses including full length and tea length wedding dresses in our Surrey bridal shop. We have dresses with long sleeves and short sleeves, fur wraps and long sleeve lace boleros. We also have our gorgeous capelets that can be added to a lot of different dresses for a little variety.

The Evelyn Suite

This beautiful wedding suite is light, bright, classy and elegant. It lends itself perfectly to icy blue and snowy silver colour palettes with injections of gold and pastel pinks. However, as the room itself is fairly neutral, it could certainly take a darker and stronger colour palette such as burgundy and navy or forest green and copper. Flowers by Elaine are partially included in Wotton House wedding packages and they have such an amazing variety of centrepieces to choose from to create your signature look.

Whichever colour palette you settle for, accentuate with lots of candles and soft lighting. Turn the lights down in the ceiling and add extra lighting to the tables and uplight the walls in soft shades and warm tones. This brings in the atmosphere and makes everything feel so much cosier.

Wedding Theme Advice - your ‘theme’ is not the same as your colour scheme. For example, your ‘theme’ cannot be ‘blue’. That means, that anything that is blue could feature in your wedding and this can lead to a very confused and non-cohesive style. Choose a few words that best describe the look and feel you are trying to achieve AND choose a colour palette. You will find that you eliminate or include things based on these titles and end up with something far more cohesive. An example of this would be ‘enchanted winter woodland’ and ‘copper, ivory, navy blue’. Taking these into consideration, you will begin to avoid anything that does not fit the brief of a woodland themed wedding and in turn, you will end up with a very clear and finished decorative look.

The Roman Temple

Let’s be honest. You’re probably not going to have your reception outside between the months of October and March. However, that doesn’t mean that you should avoid the stunning grounds at Wotton. On the contrary! Winter creates some of the most emotive lighting, the most dramatic and tempestuous skies and the most turbulent winds. Get your welly boots and/or umbrella and get outside for some unforgettable photos! The Roman Temple, also known as the Turtle House, is simply magnificent and should be frequented for photos all year round as well as Wotton’s stunning grade II listed Italian gardens.

Whatever the weather at your winter wedding, embrace the dwindling light, the endless possible alcoholic hot chocolate combinations you can create on your bespoke hot choc station (Bailey’s for me) and the romance and ‘togetherness’ that the season so effortlessly commands. We can’t wait to see more of our brides winter wedding photos at this stunning Surrey venue.
